![]() ![]() It's made with GTK as well which makes it stick out a little bit but it's overall functionality and setup suited my needs a lot more than the other options I tried. That's when I tried out Evolution.Įvolution is quite similar compared to Thunderbird. I also started missing some features, mainly filters, after a few days. Geary looked great and sounded promising as just a minimal mail client. Because of that, I kept searching around since there seemed to be a lot more mail clients to choose from on Linux compared to Windows. I've never quite liked its calendar functionality either. It's probably the fact that it is made with GTK. It was quite good on Windows but something about it felt off on Linux. I had been using Thunderbird on Windows in the past. That's been a long wall of text but I just passionately want Kontact to become better. The fact that someone using Plasma is even asking around which mail client to use is a clear indicator that KMail is lacking somewhere. It has a lot of potential but unfortunately, it's not great yet. KMail and the Kontact suite need an overall redesign and the way the settings are laid out needs to be rethought as well. One could argue that I am just an idiot but if an idiot can't navigate software which I would deem essential, the UX went wrong at quite a lot of places. Just trying to find out how to disable that took me way too long. The settings are all over the place as well. I gave up on using Akregator and just started using Feedbro on Firefox. Even if you minimize it because you want to open every link in your browser, it just keeps coming back. Likewise, Akregator is plagued by the same box at the bottom right which stays white even if you use dark mode. Even if you want to get rid of it because you want to open each and every mail in a new window, it just keeps coming back. That indicator bar at the left with vertical text is every designer's nightmare. ![]() First of all, the mail reader which you can see at the bottom right just looked, felt and behaved so out of place. Unfortunately, after using it for some time, I got annoyed by it. Kontact seemed to be the obvious choice on Plasma because it is made by KDE as well and integrates nicely into Plasma. I've tried Kontact (suite which includes KMail), Thunderbird, Geary and Evolution. ![]()
